The Simple Things

Have you discovered that you do not have to be in Egypt to be in captivity?  

 When your in search of pleasure, your heart will too soon find - That it’s not the rich and finer things that make your soul unwind- For looks and fame and riches take wings and fly away - And I’ve found it’s more the simple things that better fill your day -Things like dogs and babies and a smile from one who’s kind - These are the things that touch your life and make your soul unwind - Cause it doesn’t cost a penny to laugh or sing or shout - And you really can enjoy yourself when you know what life’s about - This world is full of simple things for all that will behold - But many have not noticed them because their mind is sold -To things like greed and selfishness and busy schedules too - So next time that you feel real sad and don’t know what to do - Just stop and take advantage of the beauty around you -And you will find that there is more than you have ever seen -Because it is the simple things that make your heart feel clean - Like strength of a companion or watching children play - It’s things like resting on the porch after working hard all day - The smelling of the flowers, the way the eagle glides- These are the simple things of life that fill up your insides - For God has made so much for us to have if we’re not blind - Cause it really is the simple things that make the soul unwind
